DARA MARK BIO

Dara Mark spent childhood summers on Cape Ann, Massachusetts, where her artist father painted, and winters in Connecticut, in close proximity to the museums and galleries of New York.   Her early decision to become an artist was strengthened by a summer studying weaving in San Miguel de Allende at the age of 10.   Drawing classes with Neil Welliver and William Bailey, architecture studies at Yale and a master’s degree in ceramics from University of California at Santa Barbara completed an eclectic arts education.

Remaining in California after her degree, she taught in various capacities, including as a Master Artist for talented youth.  At this time she produced two extended landscape drawing suites which were exhibited around the state, and began her exploration of abstract, intuitively inspired works on paper.

Mark moved to Lamy, New Mexico, just outside Santa Fe in 1997.   She now works in watercolor on synthetic paper.  Mark is represented by SMINK in Dallas, Friesen + Lantz in Sun Valley, ID, Gebert Contemporary in Santa Fe and Santa Fe Editions, publishers of fine prints.
